"Defund The Pigs"

Title : Defund the Pigs

Medium : Acrylic and Colored Pencil on 16'' * 18'' canvas

Defund the Pigs was inspired by Griot's discontent with the relationship between auxiliary forces and minority communities not only in the United States, but across the span of the globe. It was an impassioned method for him to cope with his dismay. There was no preconceived notion for the painting. Midway through the creation of the painting, he chose to animalize the figure into a pig. "Pig" is a derogatory term for police officers, connoting distrust and discontent with the entire institution. Its usage has existed decades ago and has resurged back into the colloquial language. The red splotches on-top of the pig denote the countless amount of lives that have been taken or disturbed by police forces. The insidious smirk expresses the flow of . This smirk supersedes any cognitive dissonance, as we see how the power dynamic(s), provide a rationale that would sanction the police have control over someone's life.

Ironic enough, months after its inception, Mr. X's home was raided by MPD and out of all of the damage, this painting remained untouched. It was a rather satisfying moment for Mr. X who was in fear and dismay at the time. It was a literal satirical-relief from the pain of seeing his house be flipped upside down.
