The year 2021 was filled with many revelations that transitioned into blessings! It was a year that really tested my character and patience. In retrospect, Jah tested my will to win through so many circumstances and conditions that honestly broke me down bit by bit in order to rebuild me into the man I continue to evolve as. The griots of the Malinke people have preserved the story of Sundiate Keita who was the original founder and first "Mansa" of the Mali Empire. The story embodies resilience and kingship not only through the plot, but through the character development. Sundiata was unable to stand on his own as a child and in fact did not walk until he was about 20 years old. His mother Sogolon was outcasted because of her physical appearnace (she had a hunch back and was the daughter of the "buffalo woman" Kedjou. Keita's own half brother Dankaran Touman and Dankaran's mother Sassouma Berete were extremely cruel to Keita's mother and in fact exiled her after the eath of Maghann. Throughout this period Keita's mother was a loyal woman who sought out to the Griot's, shamans, and oracles to find answers to her son's ailment. Nonetheless, the day that he stood was the day that embarked his ascendance as a leader of his people and master of his own destiny.  Sundiata was revered by the king of Mema from the Ghanian Empire and throughout time and more trust avowed in his perspective, Sundiata became a leading general. He went on to liberate his people at the Battleo Kirina by overthrowing the Sosso king and becoming the first Mansa of the Empire. 

    Like the story of Sundiata, Griot reground himself after losing his footing, insight and inspiration for creativity. Sometimes Jah realigns the people in your life for the forward progression of your God-given gift. The song "Prayers" is an acceptance of what is to come as well as a delve into the retrospect where Griot compartmentalizes many of the facets of his life, finding synergy in his newfound sense of pride and overstanding. He is featured on this song by the Time Traveling Toaster (producer) and TheRealShyy ( vocal artist in background and second verse ). Hope you enjoy !
